A little trip to SAM today. But first, lunch. It was pretty good, at Kyomomoyama (what a mouthful!) at Central, 3rd level. Sashimi was very fresh, teriyaki sauce was nicely balanced, and chawanmushi was delicious. Yum! and the river view that you'll get if you happen to be seated by the window.
The highlight of the SAM trip were the copper plates from the Louvre. Very beautiful, especially the emphasis on light and shadow, different tones to bring out a picture. The plates are remarkably preserved, though it still puzzles me how they do colour printing. Interestingly though, Bizet's Carmen and Victor Hugo's Hunchback of Notre-Dame made it to the list of events in French history that they listed down (in order to give a historical background to the plate and the prints). If you're searching for something to do, it's worth going down to take a look :)
My legs ache from the walk from Clarke Quay to SAM - a slightly disorientating exercise too, since we haven't been to the area after SMU was built, and the buildings disorientated us quite a bit. (or as jj might defend himself, the buildings only disorientated one of us)
